Mikuni TM28 on 185 small block

I'm having some trouble dialing in a Mikuni TM28 on a SR185 (Suzuki TS185, Yamaha RD400 con-rod). Running a remote K&N (RU-0200) filter through a GP200 hose and a KBA Clubman. Scoot is well and truly run-in. I'm located at sea-level, with average relative daily humidity between 60% to 71%.

Current set up:

190 main
needle 5D5: clip 2nd position from top
needle jet 169-o8
pilot 27.5
throttle slide 2.0
air screw one turn out.

Scoot doesn't seem to have anything mid-range and WOT is only substantially better. Bottom end is decent thou. I plan to move the clip position up and drop to to a 185 main.

Any suggestions? Or anything I've overlooked? I'm all ears.

Smell of Death/Llody's Lambretta recommends:

main= 180
pilot=40
needle jet =169-08
needle=2nd from top of clip or middle

--for a Stage 5 190 with a big bore and TM28. Seems I'm not too far off. I'm all ears if anyone has any better ideas before I grab a handful of jets and an head out into the rain to f@@k around with plug chops.

I find the TM28 Mikuni very difficult to dial in. So difficult that I don't sell it or recommend it to others. I struggled with one on a TS1 for many thousands of miles before finally giving up. On paper it looked like it was an ideal match but I've enjoyed the engine much more with the TMX35. That's not to say that smaller TM or TMX carbs can't work well. The TM28 is sort of the oddball of the TM/TMX family.

I have read they have had great results with the Keihin PWK 28 Carburettors used on scooters in the USA and Europe but not heard much here in the UK

I was planning to run this set up and got as far as buying the carb. But after seeing a lot of negative feedback I stopped with that idea and switched to a Dellorto 30VHSH.
It would be great if they were as simple to set up as the 24 and the 30 TMX's especially as it's quite a small and lightish carb.
I've given it to Morris Lambretta from Bangkok now and he is confident he can get it set up for use with his ebay Ali 185 kit. That maybe down the line a bit, but once he's set it up I will ask him for his spec.
