Just a thought though...a mate had problems with starting - checked the spark and it seemed like a good strong blue spark so we checked EVERYTHING else , it turned out to be the bloody indian pickup , good spark - at the wrong time...
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....

Back in my first post I did say that it was a brown weak spark but replaced all the HT stuff and now have a nice pretty blue spark, so that bit is fixed. Now need to get some fuel down the plug hole and see what happens. Been very busy so far this week and not had chance to try the tea spoon idea, thinking of ASDA pharmacy and see if they have one I could use. Will let you know when I have tried this thanks to all who replied :)

I still think you should concentrate on the choke, another thing to try is to take off the air hose and get someone to hold a cloth over the carb as you kick it over.....don't let it get sucked in if it does start up though :?

Managed to get some petrol down the plug hole, no joy. Took air filter off and put cloth over the carb, no joy. Seems to be a fine spray of petrol out of the air intake...
So it looks like a good spark at the wrong time for some reason.

Yes it was a new one, still in the wrapping. Dealer on holiday until week end so I will talk to him when he gets back. At least with all the panels off it gave me a chance to give it all a good clean up. Already cost me £100 in parts, maybe just bite the bullett and pay up for a proffesional look at it. :?

On a positive note - the bits you may have unnecessarily bought will almost certain come in handy at some point in the future ;)

Another thing - I had an LT coil fail on me once , I still had a good blue spark but again not a consistant spark .

Pity you couldn't try a known good stator on it.

What's the compression like?

I did mention the compression in an earlier post, without a compression gauge I actualy think that its not very good. It kicks over very easily. I tried to get the chrome cowl off but looks like I have to remove the engine mounting to do this but I did manage to see that there is oil around what I would have thought is the cylinder head joint at the bottom near the exhaust manifold. Head gasket? Would this be reduced power not no start?

Where is the LT coil? The electric system is 12volt with regulator on the flywheel side and the output of the stator goes to the coil on the exhaust side, which was blue but is now a black model which is supposed to be better.
