Hmmm.
Hi Monty. You should certainly have over 12v.
I would re-check all your connections, make sure the blue from the stator is isolated and that the black is a good earth, as it sounds like you're getting about half what you should be :?

As soulsurfer says, check that the new blue wire is not connecting to earth anywhere, it sounds like you are getting regulated half wave which you would get if one of the wires into the podtronics was contacting earth.

Thanks guys, I will go over it again tomorrow.
Forgot to say I'm not using a battery, was considering putting a cap to ground to see if that would smooth it.
I used some 4 pole molex plugs from Maplins and was very careful heatshrinking it all and crimped and soldered all my connections, its mounted on a scooterloopy johns ali mount and earthed to the frame, back light and engine.
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks

Don't put a battery or capacitor into the loop yet as this will just complicate things at the moment.

I tried a capacitor last weekend when I fitted this system to my other scooter and it made no difference. I believe this is because it's pretty smooth anyway. I think the capacitor comes into play on old British bikes where a battery is essential in the system but the bike needs to lose weight for competition, needless to say it doesn't apply on a Lambretta. A small battery could be good to improve the sound of the horn though, but a larger one required if you plan to use additional lights.

What voltage's are you getting (ac) direct from the two yellows, first at tick over, and then at medium revs..??

23-24VAC on tick-over
45-48VAC at fast revs

Had it all out this morning and rechecked the stator, I had connected my extra wire to the stator coil wire, heat shriked it and dabbed a load of epoxy resin round it to keep it in place.
I removed the epoxy in case this was shorting out the copper coil wire and rerouted it back through the coil bobbin edge and then heat shrunk it again. It meters out exactly the same.

Back up the top end I have swapped the yellows over, still 7.4V DC
Rechecked the earths and scraped the paint from the frame to get a good earth, no resistance from any of my earths to any other place on the bike.

Loosing the will to live. Could I have fried the bloody thing?
Gone back to AC for now by just swapping plugs

The voltages from the stator seem good, possibly somthings not right after the stator...

Have you checked your plugs to make sure you have a good connection?

Thanks Soulsurfer
Yes went through both ends today, went for a run to make sure the old regulator is fine with my extra plugs. Rewired the unit and metered out all the earths again, moved the earth and bolted the thing on the strut with the same result.
Hard to meter the unit as its hard wired.
I will have another go and hard wire the bloody thing to rule out the plugs, next time.
Sent an email to the guy I bought it off to see if he gets many failures just in case. Been ebay he may not reply, but he seems to be a classic motorcycle guy, and if these work he may sell a few to guys on here, already got some guys at the club waiting to see my results

If you are sure none of the stator wires are touching earth then the reg/rec unit may be faulty, the voltage reading you are getting would be comparable to a diode failure.
You have a PM re testing it
