There is actually quite a bit more to this story Corrado, and you need to know the rest to put it into context, but Sean has been a bit naughty and thrown a snippet out, i'll have to tell him off later and make his say a thousand hail Mary's for confusing people.

And dont forget....whats good for the road isnt always whats good for the track etc.

i agree, ive been thinking of this but having ridden bikes with long rod i feel the missing link is the 110 or 115 rod, then that would be a bargain.

it will cost £75 to upgrade it then you are getting close to alpha crank money and you may as well buy the alpha which is still the best crank out there ticking all the boxes apart from the "poverty" box

I have a feeling I'll get fed up with waiting for the crank I'm after and I'll buy something else then, my 58/110 HPC crank will be released for sale

longer rod ..better for low down power maybe ,but perhaps say 2bhp down on power..compared to the shorter rod.....?

That's OK, genuine 80 mph was fast enough for me anyway.

He's exagerating folks . . . . . it was between 79 & 80mph on my satnav corrected onboard computer was for a long distance as well.

What's involved in an 110mm rod upgrade?

Buy 110mm rod kit
split existing crank and remove 107mm rod
fit 110mm rod and bearing (if required)
press crank back together and true

Purchase packing plate for cylinder to allow the piston to travel up and down without hitting the cylinder head.

and surface ginding the inside of the webs to get the desired clearance of the new rod/bearing and desired shims...and a nice couple of spot welds to the pin for safety...like anything its a cheap/effective conversion if you have the facilities,i used a rod kit from a yam rd125 from grampian motors,about 30quid at the time.from wot i can make out its the same rod on the alpha crank.

About how much material is removed? is it minimal, could it be taken off the rod?
