Front hub locating pin

I recently took off my front hub to put on some whitewalls. My question is how far back should the locating pin on the fork link sit in the slot on the hub? Mine only goes about half way?

Half way is fine. It is a loose fit, so it will probably knock every time you apply the brake. Explain this to your MoT tester each time it goes in for the test.

Thanks - I tried everything to get it to seat all the way. I'm paranoid about my front wheel falling off
