running pathfinders without battery

Well the unit arrived, great service. I have fitted in place of my Maplin full wave rectifier and zeners for the time being as I din't have time to pull the stator just now. Initial observations are that the output is a lot less than my home brew set up which even with the fecked battery would light the spots (not with the headlamp). So I have bought a new 7.2 amp battery and all seems fine at the moment, I can run the spots and horn even with full beam on 8-) I have mounted the unit under the seat just in front of the air scoop.

When I get time I want to do the full DC conversion using my BGM stator, the instructyions that came with the new rectifier say it's a Single Phase 12v 160 watt rectifier regulator for Lucas and Alton 150 watt alternators so It should easily handle the alleged 120 watts from the BGM :roll:

Thinking back to ideas that have been floated on this thread and others, i think someone (probably JIMS or Firekpd) mentioned about wiring the lighting coils in series. What exactly would I need to do and what advantages would it have over what has already been said? or am I just getting confused :?

Colin, the BGM and Indian stators already have their coils in series and are wound with a wire thickness/number of turns to suit this.
The Lambretta Concessionaires/Lucas conversion used the original coils and although could put out 12V were only capable delivering about 30W. So to increase the wattage output they had no choice but to put another pair in parallel.
