If the price from Derry includes D.A.T .... That's Derry's added Tax... It might be cheaper to get it direct from Snap On...

Already ordered so I can get on with finishing a couple of barrels... Not usually as Torquey as an electric hand piece and the revs have to be lifted with air pressure to increase torque and with that the speed increases...But I have a couple of straight air pencil grinders similar to this, and they are pretty good mine are not the same quality as Snap On so this should be good .... Delivery by 5.00 pm Tomorrow...Already ordered... Saves me trying to get my old one working for now...

Thanks Sean for the post... Also Thankyou Ancillotti for the U.K.link... 8-)

Thought I would post this... There are two straight handpieces similar to one I use available on ebay these are cheaper than dremmels and easy to use have an air valve at the rear on the hand piece to regulate air and speed normally run on around 4 cfm at or around 90 psi so small 1hp compressors will work them fairly easiy... here is the link... http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... ie+grinder

These are the hand pieces that I use... The Motor which has Gee written on it, was bought from Gee Dental in southport in the Early 80's cant remember exactly when, Its about 1/3 horse power.. I bought two flex shafts and the larger straight hand piece and foot control which is reversible dependant on lever direction... 18000 rpm minimum top speed... for about £75... Since then I have managed to get hold of two more straight hand pieces and the 90 degree hand piece off Pete Rutherford.... The smaller hand-piece is not much wider than a pencil.... Still Use this but not so much with the 90 degree since it keeps stalling.. These electric dental hand pieces tend to have more Torque than air grinders at slower speeds to medium speeds... allowing a little more control on material removal with a variety of bits... but the air grinders I have used are pretty good and light to use... So I look forward to getting the (Snap On) Blue Point, one... 8-) 8-)

This photo shows the connector which is a little different to the foredom but it has a similar drive system...

The bit that is in the chuck is an Aluminium oxide grinding bit.... TZR Steve who has a half share in this setup, managed to get me a couple of hundred bits this size and smaller for about £5.00 many years ago most of them are used up but they allow the cutter marks from the tungsten to be smoothed off a little in cast prior to mini flap discs to give a very smooth finish this shape grinding ston allows access to the back of the inside wall to good effect... Luckily for me Steve gave up on scoots a while back and I took charge of this setup and its been very handy up to now...

about 44mm......

That looks like it'll do for me then. I'd have prefered electric but £160 for trusted quality against about £400 or more with uncertain quality. I think the decision has been made for me.
I think what J1MS has said about torque may be worth considering but I think the price difference and the fact that I don't port a lot of barrels means that the Snap On wins this time.
Cheers for the help.

Finally got back to this post...

Iv'e ordered all the parts I intended, New Foredom cost £104 off EBay, Blue point air powered 1/8" collet, from Snap On UK website cost about £150, NSK adapter $89 with postage and tax about $130 (£85) ish... I ordered the Adapter first as I wasn't sure it was for my model of Foredom (Which it is) 8-) ... This lets me use the small compact NSK Hand pieces $191 each (About £120 each) (which look and feel excellent) very small with a 3mm collet so it fits the cutters I already have, I bought some new Tungsten's for the (Snap On) Bluepoint 1/8 of an inch (3.2mm) as I didn't have any to use with the Bluepoint These cost £24 for two packs of ten, from EBay (including delivery)
If any one wants to buy the NSK Adapter & Hand pieces, they are delivered in about 3-4 days from America by Fed Ex, but they invoice you separately for tax and add an administration fee... I didn't know about this till they were delivered.. So add about 15% to the overall price... You get a Bank Giro Slip to pay Fed Ex after delivery...Just pay at your bank... But still a lot cheaper than buying in the UK... I said I would post back and let anyone know who was interested in porting their own

If you put Foredom in on EBay as your search the Foredom motor setups are there...

not sure if anyone was really interested in the porting tools thread I started.... But if anyone is, I have now used these NSK hand pieces and have to say are far more accessable into the transfer area in the bore than my previous tools... Up to now I give them a thumbs up...
The initial outlay did put me off a bit, but I could only have replace my existing hand piece on its own for not much change from £350.
So this set up with two hand pieces for about £100 more isnt that bad, plus the 45 degree allows access to places the 90 degree cant get to without the cutter chattering...
