A few months ago there seemed to be a lot of talk about building torquey touring engines on this and the other site, particularly by "Captain Chaos", I noticed at the time that the Rapido 250 classic did not get much of a mention. Is that because it's port timings are still not suited to this type of engine (I got the impression that this was what it was aimed at), are few people prepared to commit their casing to this type of cylinder forever, or is there another reason I've overlooked.

i would spend my £ on a torquey touring if only some one out thier could point me in the right direction ie SET UP.... DEALER THATS OFFERING THIS FORMULA
speed is not my goal.... torque for head winds hills & a nice comfortable cruising speed of 65mph with a reasonble fuel return
is this to much to ask from the lambretta circles we all spend ourer £ within
any thoughts welcome

my rapido 250 pulls 65 fully loaded ,2 up and towing a pav . it runs a li 155 box ,16-46, four plate surflex clutc with taffy springs and a 2mm top plate(from memory), i run it with an ancillotti exhaust and a 35mm tmx.now changing to a 24mm as i am hugely over carbed .it pulls 65 (gps) at half throttle but will not go faster at all just uses more fuel.this is a great touring mch and is still faster than a majority of p2's and gp 200's out there. hope this helps you

So is that because they are so reliable that their owners are allways out driving them, covering huge distances, so have no time to come on here, or is it that they were sold to people who were all stary eyed over the idea of a 250 from years ago, and now have become disolusioned by discovering that they are tempremental and require carefull setting up to be a viable proposition?

Does anyone know what the port timings are on the classic, or even just the distance between head gasket and exhaust port top?

So by this do you mean that despite all the extra work and money you have put into your scooter, it is still only faster than most standard P200s and GP200s?

How dose it compare with the 225 classic with a 60mm crank? Is there any decent return for boring out your casing leaving you tied to that option for the future.
I'm not wanting to attack the 250 but I don't want to take an engine casing that has survived for almost 50 years and on a whim make it redundant due to a misconceived kit.

The 225 Classic normally as standard doesn't disappoint, I was pleased with mine when new... but with a 60mm stroke and setup to suit the stroke, they pull very well I have ridden with Lucky Barry from out Rochdale way... he is only a little lad, but he was bagged to the hilt with tent spare fuel and a weeks clothes.. And his scooter was very quick.. No RB 250.... but still good for 75 ish and reliable or at least while he rode with us... Harry Barlow from Pete Merchants emporium did the engine on his.... But most of what I have heard about these kits, is that the 250 out pulls a 225 stroked out to 60mm... But I haven't ridden one so cant say its true but I would think they would...

mine is a very torquey motor. it pulls a series 2 up (prob close to 30 stone, a weeks luggage for me and wife and a pav weighing 60kilo when loaded at 65mph(gps) all day . what more can you ask ?
if i want speed and torque i have my dac 39bh and still 30lbs torque at 90mph .
ir you are worried bout modifying a casing then this isnt the kit for you
