I am chuffed to see you have got your electrics sorted Dave and I hope that you are happy with the tune that I did for you, as I am now taking orders for porting lamb's from £60 for a mild tune upwards
I can be contacted on 07802 896103 or m.abbeytune@googlemail.com

Ricspeed, gone but never forgotten RIP my friend #59
Hi fellas.. not being funny here but 9hp from 130cc? And you say that your dyno reads slightly higher than diablos, which i know reads 2 to 2.5hp or more than say the PT dyno. So only 7hp max. Is this good for a vega? Are they a nuisance to get power from? Reason I ask is that I've been asked to look at one for tuning and I'm not going to say yes if i'm hitting my head against a brick wall.

Our dyno reads bang-on the same as Diablos....tony wrote:Hi fellas.. not being funny here but 9hp from 130cc? Not sure if they are a nuisance to get power from or not, im not a Vega fan (sorry Dave!!)
I have to say though, that there is an easy 1hp or so still available from jetting adjustments, and that's keeping it within the 12.7:1 range, but i wanted to keep Dave rich for rallies and varying weather/temp conditions etc......safety first!!
Also, im sure there would be a lot more power to be had with a better pipe on, i understand both Sean and Mick have specs for a pipe that works with the tune that Dave has.........so i guess its upto Dave whether or not he wants to get more power or not.
Like i say, i've not worked on a Vega, so i'm just speculating here, but i'd say this particular engine would stretch to around 12-14bhp with the right pipe/carb/jetting combo, but we just did the best we could with what was put on the dyno on the day.
Any other Vega boys out there had their scoots dynoed to give a BHP comparison??

Please don't start saying that there's a 2.5hp difference, because it doesn't work like that. You make it seem like if we put a 2.5hp minimoto on Diablo's dyno it would read 0.0hp on Charlies, which is nonsense.tony wrote:Hi fellas.. not being funny here but 9hp from 130cc? If anything there is a percentage difference; which worked out using your scoot Tony equates to around 5%.
Get to SULK
Of course there is a percentage Sticky. I just tried to make it easier.
My bike made 33.6 on alan's...31 the day before on Charlies. Is that about 8%?
And as much as one dyno reads different to another by say 8% at one given rpm (eg 11.000)doesnt mean the same amount is true at another rpm(eg 4000). It doesnt work like that.
We had another back to back bike there that day that showed nearly 3hp difference on only 16.3hp so this sort of shows what I'm saying as it made its power a lot lower down.
I'm not interested in what is what with the dynos. I'm using this data as a gauge to see if its worth me getting involved with a Vega. Now if after Mick has fettled it and he knows what he is doing am I going to get near? I'm not sure its worth the hassle.

I would have thought the best solution for a Vega would be a barrel swap to something less primitive. Machining a kit fit Vega studs and cases is probably easier than hours of carving cast iron.

I thought I would try to give a guestamate of power as a comparison on the Vega that I had a go of... Long time ago now, but power-wise it made the Vega I rode feel alot quicker than a new stage 4 lambretta..The stage 4 GP had a big bore 42 and Amal which was capable of a genuine 65-70 on the road, the owner claimed 85mph... the Vega would easily out accelerate the AF once it got rolling... the top end speed on the Vega probably near to 70...
So I would guess the Vega made less horse power than the stage 4 but the power to weight ratio was probably about the same and the total loss battery points ignition system and lighter flywheel made for better mid range response... The barrel I think was a Webster tuned one, and the piston was definitely a KH400... It ran on a modified standard looking exhaust to keep within the rules of the day... & from memory, I think it had a solid mount carb which I think it would have been a Dellorto... This was a track scooter & not meant for road use, it was quick enough to stay with similar ability riders on 150 group 3 scooters... Just trying to give Tony an Idea of the power that was available back then by tuning the Vegas... I had no part in the setup or running of this scooter in anyway, but I did see it race a couple of times back in the early 80's.. and managed to get one little ride on it...

Mick, very impressed with your work on that cylinder. What would be the cost for the same tune that you have done on that one? I appreciate that its a cast cylinder, so lots of tough work and time to be put in, but just trying to get an idea of overall cost.Mick Abbey wrote:I am chuffed to see you have got your electrics sorted Dave and I hope that you are happy with the tune that I did for you, as I am now taking orders for porting lamb's from £60 for a mild tune upwards
