Before you comit to Timecert just check the outer diametre of their M8 insets, they look considerably larger than helicoil. If this is the case they may break through the casing which which is a big problem as the insert wont hold.

I have done these repairs before but with Helicoils. If you go the helicoil route remember to get a long helicoil insert not the standard one.

The two insert systems work exactly the same way, you just need to pay attention and be more careful when using helicoils as the product isn't as stable when screwing it in.

One thing is for sure, if you balls it up you're into welding and in that area it will have to be done properly.

Standard Timeserts aren't bigger - they have the same outer diameter as Helicoils. The cut threads are 'timed' (hence the name) when they are machined so that the inner and outer threads are in phase and the end product is a solid part and not a coil.

But do not timeserts rely on expansion at the end to hold them in place? I've had a casing with them in that had pushed out the internal part of the thread housing, some so bad as to expose the timesert. I'm just thinking that if the walls of the hole are gonna be thin mabe a helicoil (can they be locktited in place?) might be a less stressful method. :?:

Thank you boys for your help and time taken to help me out. I haven't commited to anything but instead I have taken it to the local machine shop. Time cert seems like a good option however, I will take it into account for future purchase and test into an engine of my own. Since this is not my engine and they offer helicoiling at a reasonable price (which I didn't know) I have taken the studs out as Knowledge suggested, and taken it about 30 minutes ago. Lets see how they solve it. Problem is that I have to wait until Thursday now with my arms crossed... Anyone for coming down to Spain and rebuild his engine on the sun watching the babes go by in small clothing? :baddevil: :baddevil: :baddevil: :baddevil: :baddevil: I rent an apartment for those interested... :frog: :frog: :frog:

Coaster looked at your link regarding helicoil kits take it the one you listed of E Bay will do the Exhaust studs on the Casing side is there one on Quickfast for the 6mm casing side stud repair as well ie what size ??

thats them, most local bike shops should have them and will charge 25 pound for a one off. i love them as you can fit one time cert into another to reduce the hole size if need be.

jaime its not economical to send it to me, you can buy the set for that money but its just a regular repair so dont stress and just find a local shop that does them then you can get them done as you need them.

no offence to anyone that uses helicoils but i dont like them and have romoved so many just to re fit time certs. im a fat fingered heavy handed f@@ker....i break everything :?

if you buy the big kit that has everything then 100 s of pasatas but a one size kit is about 60 pound by memory. sugarlump bought a set not so long ago ill ask him.

german ebay has them now and again as wurth are from de farder lund.

its anoying, when i worked in sweden wurth would have shops on industrial estates so you could walk in and buy stuff but here in the uk you have to go via a rep which is a pain in the ass :?
