can you tell me what the difference is between powder coat and a respray. Like you i want to go for a white. Is powder coat more hard wearing and does it produce as good a finish as paint? Also is it more expensive?

Powder coat is applied after sandblasting. Its applied dry to bare metal and then melts in the oven. It is very hard wearing and a fair bit cheaper than a "proper" paint job. However the paint finish lacks depth of shine and unless the metal is in good condition it can look a bit rough as you cant use filler.

most people just get the frame, forks, rims and internal bits like cowlings and tanks coated.

That about covers it
If you have bad pitting dents or bumps, dont go for powder coat, mine was near mint apart from the legshields, had to get a panel beater to sort them before powder coating, this is the scoot after five years on the road

lovley scoot simon, i hope mine looks half as good. I suspect the panels, legshields will defo require some fettling, so money permitting will go for powder coat on frame, wheels and shocks and paint on the rest. I was told that the best way to strip back to bare metal was to go for the acid dip method as it is gentler on metal? Out of curiosity what did you pay to get th scoot sand blasted and then powdercoated?

The panel beating was done by someone else. I also gave the parts to the powder coaters in bare metal, so I new how they would turn out

Just had a quote from a firm in rayleigh for £225 that was to bead balst all metal work including forks wheels pannels ect and then to powder coat the tube, hubs, mudguard and forks. The rest of the metal will have to be sprayed.

I suspect that the £225 doesnt include any fettling and i think the legshields may have a bit of filler and welding on one side, the rear runners also look well f**** If it doesnt look good, i may even do a sympathetic cut down on it (gets tin hat on).

Help! Hown do i seperate the forks from frame without smashing the ring to bits cant get a decent drift on it.

Any hints/tips greatly appreciated

Refer to this. Have you got the right spanners, they make it very easy. When you say "ring" you're not talking about the ring on the frame are you? If you are, you don't need to touch this, mate
