I'm checking and cleaning up a Jet200 casing for my next engine.
The casting inside is not completely smooth like the Italian engines i have also been stripping lately. It's fairly textured in fact. is this a feature of the Spanish castings ? Or has it maybe been blasted in it's life ? i'm not overly concerned, and wasn't planning to make it smooth [unless there was a good reason for doing so], just wondered if that was usual...?
cheers
inside Spanish casings
You should have asked earlier as my 190 is built into Spanish casings.
I don't remember them being rough inside though mate, different name cast into them - obviously wouldn't be Innocenti but wasn't Serveta or anything I recognised.
This is how the motor looked inside when I first took the side casing off - it was a NOS, late 125 motor - look how clean the oil was !

by the clutch sprocket at about 90degrees to the right there is a little triangle cast in, (just below the part No) which tells you its Spanish and they are usually well cast smooth and very clean when new. Unlike the Indian castings. I bought a couple off Bedlams a few years ago, IMO money well spent!Stokie wrote:You should have asked earlier as my 190 is built into Spanish casings.

cheers guys. yep it's got that triangle cast in. it's definitely Spanish, got the longer shock mount and neutral light switch hole [ how does that work ?
]
I've just spent the night cleaning it up and checking the threads etc. all good, only had to run a tap down one, the other fifty were all good. I've never counted how many studs there are on a casing before !
i think i will get it a bit smoother in there. be a shame not to.
yours does look nice and clean Stokie, comparing it to the orange slop that was all inside my Italian 125 when I first opened it up.

Here my 175TV engine:

The mecanism of neutral light switch have a "small ball" inside the engine, and when you put neutral, the gear selector push up this ball, and switch the mecanism.
