At £37.99 I'd be surprised if it's a 2 ring Mahle as that's less than trade price from AF.Dazza wrote: As Smithy said they have them in beedies - interestingly though they have one listed for £37.99 and an asso for £99.99 - i'll bet any money the 37.99 is an escorts version![]()

Cheers
The Beedam £37 pistons are very ting tong and the rings go very easily
Piston seem ok but Id swap the rings to better named products.
Or better still get a better make piston
The Beedam Piston Kit Has no name on it
If its made of Metal Fettle it !!

I went for the Mahle from AF eventually - I phoned Classic Lambrettas to see if they had anything first which they didn't but they said they were off to AF to collect some other stuff so If I wanted to they would pick a piston up for me so top marks to them for that.
Just waiting for the phone call to say they have it in the shop..
Just bought a honing tool to give the bore a quick once over , do I need to lubricate it or go in dry

Is it one of the 3 spring legged affairs? I tried one (dry), be careful they're fecking lethal if they jump out of the barrel. If you've got an old barrel try it out on that first.Dazza wrote:

here how i do mine open up a work bench like the black and decker one clamp barrel in in place a bucket or othe container underneath spray cylinder with loads of kero or diesel and hone on a slow speed i use a cordless drill as they spin slowrer i go up and down quickly to try and get 45 deg hatching if poss get someonre to spray more lub as you go you only need to go up and down a few times then check then a few more times make sure the cutting stones go right through both ends i then clean it all up and check the piston using a feeler guage not ideal but it give some indication as to how tight it is dont presume all pistons that are 70mm are the same size as there not always so id try the piston minus rings in ther first and measureDazza wrote:I went for the Mahle from AF eventually - I phoned Classic Lambrettas to see if they had anything first which they didn't but they said they were off to AF to collect some other stuff so If I wanted to they would pick a piston up for me so top marks to them for that.

Cheers chaps, honed it out ok, could get all but a slight score out without taking too much off the barrel without knackering the clearance.
Fitted it all back together and she started 1st kick - just got a steady ride to Darlo on saturday
I just wish I knew why iy did it in the first place

Well pissed off!
Sat on the A168 waiting for a very nice man to come and rescue
me!
Had a slight nip up on the A1 about 30 miles from home - carried on another 40 miles but the damage was done, struggled along at 45mph, just got off the A1m and it let go.
So pretty well gutted...
