Is it running 6V points? The plug gap needs to be pretty small - 0.3-0.4mm iirc

Its electronic. I think it was the old fuel and the plug gap together that caused the issue. Pretty frustrating. I'd always kind of had 'bad fuel' down as a bit of an old wives tale but you live and learn..

Lambrettas in general don't or hard start on basic simple faults. Running sweet is more an issue. Glad you got it sorted.mr mugello wrote:If it fires up after easy start. Might be old fuel issue.

Thanks. The running sweet is the next challenge - will run it in and then its time for some plug chops.mr mugello wrote:Lambrettas in general don't or hard start on basic simple faults. I got the pressure tester - and it only measures like 25psi when kicked once with the scoot on the stand. The compression feels fine to me and its starting fine now - so I'm assuming its me taking the reading incorrectly - do you do anything other than plug the read into the spark plug head and give it a kick? Should the reading be taken off the stand and as big as possible?Chris in Margate wrote:Buy a can of Bradex Easy Start from Halfords or similar.
Open throttle and spray generous amount into the carb mouth.
If it doesn't fire or start after 3-4 kicks, then it's not a fuelling issue. If it starts you can discount the electrics. Easy Start will normally start anything.
Compression tester should be used to see if you have at least 100 psi. £10 delivered from ebay.
Air leak derector using bicycle inner tube cut in half and either end secured at inlet and exhaust pipe and then pumped up.
Test with the throttle wide open and kick a couple of times to get a good reading.
