Thanks for the replies guys but I think I've got it sorted now. I spoke to the guy at Scooter Restorations this morning as they have the cone listed with the matching part number to my hub, I explained that although I have the earlier part number I have the more recent GP hub according to the Stickys book he seems to think there was some cross over so this could explain why.
Anyway that's been ordered so yes Adam I will lap the two together with fine valve grinding paste and like you say by doing so will confirm the two are a correct match for each other, if not I'll have to get an 8 degree cone and try again.

Doom, I can confirm I'm definitely a geezer and not a Lady or look like a Lady, unless of course you like bearded Lady's !

Yes I ordered the 11 degree taper as the part number coresponded with the number on my hub, yet the hub is a later GP one according to the Stickys book.

Found an excellent way to retrieve the speedo cable nut that fell down the fork leg cuz the o ring perished if anyone's interested.

Dead easy boss. First take off your headset top and watch helplessly as the bugger drops down then panic, then simply wrap a bit of chewing gum around the top bit and pull the cable down till it bottoms out on the err bottom! Give it another good yank to ensure its got it then poke the cable back up and hey presto there's your nut, sorted!
