200 CC ENGINE CASING - LAST BATCH / PRODUCTION END ?

I have a friend who had a hobby/business buying casings direct from India. He cannot now get them-no more available. There were problems with these casings a couple of years ago regarding ordering them for the UK and I think we were lucky to have them made for us then. I was not entirely sure of the problems but I do know there were some. It is Paul at SR that has been one of the main people responsible for dealing with SIL over the years and I believe I am correct in saying that SIL/Indian Government are not the most reliable business partners. Paul has been told that there are no more available from the factory. I don't know SIL's production figures but I would think the UK market is a drop in the ocean to them and if they are changing their market for the future then the 2 stroke engine is not the way. Maybe someone else in India will be able to provide some from 'old stock' but for how long?
Someone on Ebay is selling them for £240 which makes SR's price very reasonable.
Just my mutterings on this topic. If I had enough money I would certainly buy a couple at the moment-just in case!

f@@k it. I'm not going to be held to ransom or Fall into the trap of panic buying spare 200 casings

After my 250 I'm going to use my spare 150 casings for a choice of Mugello/Imola/RT190 or RB20

why not just convert small block to big block. people weld up casings all of the time why not just weld up the million and one li cases out there?

im suprised that some slumdog hasnt got his mits on the tooling for the indian casings. they dont waste much over there.

Fiat now own the innocenti name, wouldn't it be great if they bought the mouldings and made them back in Milan

it would cost alot to do in the uk as a welder i know whats involved, cleaning,prep,welding and then remachining, stresses would build up in other areas of the block so it would need stress reliving all bearing journals would need to be checked as would the magflang hole, id say a lazer cut profile that fits on the case around the neck and then welded would be the best bet this way you could run proper bike barrels (watercooled) and get the spacings drilled to suit Harry
Barlow talked about this 3 yrs ago dont think he ever got it any further
i have been involved in some work with machine (hydrolic press)parts were we lazer map old parts then add a percentage to be machined off its all CNC stuff but the mapping data can be used on thermal or water cutters to cut part within 20 microns (1/5th) mm its just getting someone to take the plunge to get it started ,also the price of 125/150 cases has gone up in recent months i was given 2 cases last year for nothing now everyone wants £££££££££££££,s

SR made the same claims a couple of years back. Relax . . . it's probably just a marketing ploy (that's worked) If it's true then God bless the RB20 :mrgreen:

Sorry to rain on SpecialX's interesting theories about SR's marketing strategy, but I was speaking to Paul Brierley at the Euro (top man, BTW). SR has a few hundred in stock but at normal rates of sale they will be gone by Xmas. SIL don't have any more, apparently. In order to remanufacture them, they wanted him to place an order - but for several thousand, which he was understandaly loath to do.

Apart from anything else, even if SR were to place that size an order, it is virtually certain that they would manufacture hundreds, maybe even thousands more on the side - and sell them off separately to all-comers. Which in turn would make SR's own order an expensive folly.

That's not to say things can't change: Gilardoni were unwilling to manufacture any more TS1 kits unless they received a vast order, again running into thousands of barrels. The recession "persuaded" them to change their minds.

But it's not clear whether the Indians will be so amenable. I'm sure there will be some cases available from all sorts of other unlikely sources for some time after that, but unless the Indians relent, it is fair to say there will be a severe shortage this time next year.

The state my new sil 200 engine was in when I stripped maybe they shouldnt build any more.. :lol: ..or at least send them a torque wrench and a copy of stickys book.. ;)
Pitty they wouldnt sell the moulds to SR for them to produce there must be at least another 20 years left in lambretta riders.. :shock:
