Thanks. That brings me back to my original question though.

Those readings were at tickover. I shall increase the revs for a minute or so and see if that makes any material difference.

I would expect it to make a pronounced difference Paul, the stator output will rise with revs.

Just a thought, does the Rally use the same system for regulating the volts as Lambretta? I believe a 12 volt speedo bulb was used although aftermarket zenor diodes were also advocated in the 'tuning manual'. I note that your drawing has a ? against the speedo bulb and the writing isn't legible on the repro in your earlier post.

Also, what is happening to ypou batteries? are they boiling dry or just loosing charge? If you are constantly having to top up with distilled water, that would be a sign of over charging.

The speedo bulb is 6v, Col. I think it is 1.5 amp. It is correct for this model and is one of the bulbs that have blown but it is working at the moment. The batteries are not losing lots of acid so probably not over charging. They are basically losing charge and neither a main charge or trickle charge will bring them back to life.
