When you look into the fuel tank with a torch is there any rust or dirt in there? Try a different plug (not a different number) just as an experiment. Check that the ht lead is tightly wound into the plug cap and ht coil. If the fuel hose is too long and you haven't alot of fuel in the tank then the fuel will not flow properly. Remove the outer green wire from the ht coil just to rule out ignition key or loom issues. Is there good resistance when you press down the kickstart? Only for the short term you could remove the breather from the clutch cover and thread in a bolt. Its awkward to get to, on top of the engine and above where the clutch cable is fixed. This would cover up for a leaking main oil seal. If it starts without the clutch breather than it needs a new crank seal. Fresh fuel...I can't think of anything else. Maybe it is an electrical problem but no harm trying all of the easy checks first.

ricardo59 wrote:Yes tried to bump start but not even a back fire. if there is a blocked jet could it be the main jet preventing it starting or is the main jet not involved in the start up process? Its either one of the following, weak spark, not enough fuel entering chamber, too much fuel entering chamber....the problem how do you determine which one it is. I'll take main jet out clean and note the size if that doesn't work get new CDI and HT cable
Oh don't know if i've mentioned this before but the scoot has cut out a few times before but managed to catch it wile still moving

For all that I've written I still think its a blocked jet/dirty carb/fuel hose thing. I'd spend an hour or two cleaning the carb. When you say you've managed to catch it I'm guessing your clutching and giving it a rev to keep it alive? When a scooter runs intermittantly like yours it's usually something simple.

Took the main jet ( 115 ) and cleaned, think i need to take the pilot jet but looks a bit tricky. Ordered a Ducati CDI unit with HT lead and connectors, see if this works.

i would suspect your idle jet, remove and clean, also check your air screw, screw it in counting how many turns it is out from screwed in position, remove it and clean out the air circuit ,it will connect to the idle screw and to one of the holes on the outside , it can ingest dirt from the mouth of the carb, use carb cleaner and compresed air, i would strip the full carb and clean the lot, but spend extra time to make sure idle jet is clear and all the passages it joins to, it cant do any harm, its not going to be a main jet problem as you would have siezed it up, or holed a piston i would suggest.

Take that carb off. Try a vespa p200 carb instead.
check compression. Maybe worth taking off the cylinder head and checking piston isnt holed ir rings not broken.
change spark plug. Check gap.
change ht lead.
change cdi.
Change 1 at a time to eliminate that as the problem.

Good luck
