230 touring motor, which way to go?
If you are comparing the RT/GT/mugello/imola against old style bored out 1980/1990 cast iron then they are much better.
All been done or bought but half built and been that way for nearly a year, although when finished it will be a touring 230...Mugello 225 Version 1 Stage 4 tuned by Chiselspeed and a boost port, Suzuki TS250 piston with windows cut, Atomic mini reed manifold, Tameni 60mm crank/Ape 110 rod, Dellorto PHBH 28, Chiselspeed ADS3 pipe and some combination of gearing around 4.8 if top end/pipe will pull. Had read that Adspeed had got down below 4.4 on a TS1 with the ADS3.

The ADS3 is a stonking pipe for low down grunt, but has zero over-rev (unless it's been updated?).
Once it hits peak (I forget..around 6500rpm?) it stonewalls.
With touring in mind....the TSR Evo pipe does a good job, as did the NK Rally.

If limited to small block, as I say GT kit would be a good option. Combine that with one of Richards 60mm GT cranks, a TSR pipe, AF 6 plate clutch.....looks good to me.

Early Mugello 225, with LTH / Atomic small reed block, Pro-Porting TS1 piston with half moon cut into piston skirt on inlet side, didn't touch the barrel, 58 x 110 crank, 3mm base packer, Mikuni TMX27 carb, ADS3 exhaust, Li150 box with 4.7 gearing [pretty sure it'll go taller but dont want to touch the LTH clutch]. 20 bhp at over 7,000 rpm and 19 lbs torque. Best engine I've ever run for touring [my RB20 is a lot more fun though]. In bits at the minute [bearing track spun on crank] so may fit a GT60 x 110 crank and may try a bigger front sprocket if I've got a suitable chain.

I wouldn't worry about 6 plate af clutch, my gt200 tt pipe pulls 22hp 19tq and runs on 4 plate surflex with no hassles
Out of box the Gt kits are just bolt on and go

My rally scooter is running GT186, a GT 60/110 crank with PHBH30, Fran Race and Readspeed 5 plate clutch and is a lovely ride. Will sit there at 60-65 (GPS) all day fully loaded with loads left for over taking when you need itdrunkmunkey6969 wrote:If limited to small block, as I say GT kit would be a good option.
