Riding along yesterday and this happened. Luckily I was approaching a junction and going slowly, a few minutes earlier and I was going around 50mph

I've never known it before. OK, so it's a cheapo Escorts, but it shouldn't happen. The shock's a couple of years old with less than 2000km on it. Riding 2-up, no luggage, total weight around 24 stone.
The bumpstop rubber prevented a complete lock-up, but the tyre still touched the mudguard judging by the smell of burning rubber!

Enough to give you nightmares. There are Escorts and there are Escorts. Since they changed the design they seem to have no end of problems. I don't think anybody has problems with the old ones.

I'm not risking it again, a different brand for me from now on. I'm glad I stayed upright, but it's a pain that the panel got bent where it was forced off.

Thanks - I think the Scootopia one is a rebranded Carbone, which I've just ordered from SIP (cheaper for me):

Happened to me last year. Just had a 70 mph blast down the Thanet Way. Slowed into traffic into the village and it went at about 20 mph. Terrifying and dented the newly painted panel. Only 1 year old.

My 30 year old original one went a couple of months ago, but the spring went off the other end, so didn't damage anything. Mine went going over a pot hole slowly so didn't really notice till the exhaust kept grounding out at the slightest lean.
