Running a 26mm carb with an AV266 atomiser and wanted a leaner one so asked for an Av264 and received an AQ264. Are these the same? I understand the AS is longer so changes the point it goes richer but not had chance to remove the AV one to compare. I don't want to introduce more variables as it's pretty close as it is. I'm on the top clip on an x7 and need to go a tad leaner.

It wasn't a very successful shopping trip. I bought a couple of needles that were nothing like I asked for should have gone to spec savers. All dropped in a poly bag and didn't notice till I got home.
Any one shed any light on the difference between AQ and AV or is it simply take it back and get what I asked for
My logic is they are all numbered so you can go step by step, I don't want to start jumping from one type to another

AV atomisers work with x7, x2, x13 needles etc were as AQ work with D needles. I would say you need to change it for the correct one.

If I were you I'd take them back and ask for them to be exchanged. If its a reputable shop I cant see them refusing.

Id have thought they would have given you what you asked for in the first place?

Is an X2 leaner than a X7 and are they commonly available?
I went in looking for a leaner needle of what I had and was told next step was atomiser. I also was told I should use the half spacer but on top clip my logic says I'm going half a step richer rather than leaner. I think I have my mind round this carb malarkey and come out the shop more confused than ever. Doesn't take a lot

X2 is considerably richer than the X7 as it has a longer taper, however, the shaft and tip diameters are the same so they will be exactly the same rich vs weak setting at some throttle positions... the X2 simply gets richer sooner then equals out again at WOT.

So, No, the X2 is not leaner than X7. The X needles, like most Dellorto needle ranges, do not run rich/weak in numerical order.
