Are you sure it isn't the front cush drive slipping? wouldn't be the first time some miss-assembly has caused this.
interesting shout that m8? its a one to checkout when i open it up?
cheers
To be honest I've never experienced it personally but know some who have and they say it feels exactly like clutch slip. Can be for a number of reasons like weak spring, loose bolt, spline not aligned or catching. Good luck
Strange this old post coming up...........burn't my GP's clutch out coming home from Kelso , only this week got round to changing it and put in a readspeed 5 plate one. Not been out on it yet though. My fault this time , could hear it catching on kickstart but couldn't be bothered to loosen it off on the Sunday morning as it was on;ly 65 miles to travel and had planned to change it anyway. The original clutch problem of this thread , on Jet 200......bought one of those saigon cassette clutches, complete junk , after stubbornly persisting with it , dremmel , in out in out etc got new plates, cables, basket , steels and works fine.

Is this using the mk-1 or mk-2 version of these SSC clutches m8?
If you're on a budget and have a 15-20BHP motor go for the Readspeed 5 plate kit. If you're not on a budget go for the AF Race. It'll cope with anything up to 30BHP ( possibly more ) and with a decent nylon line cable will be as light as a feather. Don't even consider the SSC clutch they are rubbish.

I was thinking about a readspeed 6 plate but people are telling me just to put a 5 plate in, Im reading all the posts regarding clutches and still havent made my mind up. CONFUSED DOT COM. It all boils down to budget, others im considering , SSC/Morris 5 plate, around £180 but not seen much info on them, MB 6 plate, looks good but its well over £400, woudnt touch the AF cassette type road version, you need arms like popeye to pull it in, but the race version is supposed to be better, Just need a very good clutch to handle a 24bhp imola
I've got the AF road cassette clutch in my RB it's so light and easy to use and I'm no popeye
Also have the AF road clutch in my TS230 standard road springs but with the race plates and the feel on lever is lighter than a standard clutch , been in a while now with no slip . 30bhp 22lbft torque.

I have an AF road one on my TS1 and agree that the lever is light and there is no drag or slippage but it is grabby as hell on pull away. I can live with it as it's not much worse than the average PX clutch in that respect but next time I have it apart I will check the plates for roughness.

I have a used SSC clutch which I recently picked up and it slips really badly which is due I think to one of the steels being 'belled' which means there's no friction between 2 of the friction plates. Do you have any idea what motorbike they originate from? I've tried emailing Morris from SSC who designed it but not had any joy....or if you had any spare steels I would very much like to but one I also noted that standard Lambretta springs will fit inside the SSC ones so that is another possibility.
