Right then folks. An old chestnut.
I'm building a new motor with ts1 tuned for 186exhaust and 128 transfer with franspeed supertourer.
Do I go for 4.7 or 5.0 final drive?

Mine is set up for touring with a 110mm rod on a 58mm crank and 2.5 base packer. Can't recall what the port timings worked out. Ran it initially 4.7 with an Ancilloti and it was VERY flexible pulling strongly up to 60ish but then ran out of revs. Changed the Ancilloti for a Super Tourer and the difference was dramatic with a very pronounced power band and revving on to over 8K. BUT, show it a hill or headwind and it struggled. If riding with mates in the range between 48 and 52 it was a nightmare as it was just outside the power band and the speed would drop off if there was a gradient or headwind to the point I would have to drop down to 3rd, race back up and then repeat, very tiresome. I dropped the gearing to around 5 to 1 (Li 150, 16x46) and it made a world of difference.

Thanks garry, but I'm sticking with my 47t clutch sprocket as it's already built up, and 5.0 and 4.9 are close enough........ I think.garry inglis wrote:16/46 hendy =4.9
