I dont disagree with you, You can easily put 40+ hp through a standard gear box, but Im not talking about a standard gear box. Tino's gear box was breaking on down gearing (and im not talking about track bikes) and the 5 speed gearboxes I have used would struggle to stay engaged when ridden hard. And as for sorting out the power delivery of the cylinder kits thats another story.

If the new 5 speed gear box works in the confines of the 4 speed box, and dosnt break and all the old Inherant problems are Ironed out. Its a complete success, Then why not fit a six speed in its place and do this by using the 4 speed vega solution by stepping out the end plate as previously mentioned? One advantage of this is that all 6 gears using this method would actually be slightly thicker than the 5 gears fitted into the standard un-modified case, this would in turn make the selector slightly wider than in the 5 speed, which should then make it more usable in all situations and probably stronger. Very expensive I dont doubt.

to step out the endplate would create probs elsewhere.............
what would you do regarding clutch/chain etc etc...................?

Your quite right Sean but suppose could bring clutch and Primary drive out and then put a spacer on outside of crankcase like used on old type 6 plate clutches maybe.

Im sure it could be quite possible but cost a bob or two.

Thing is GP bike gear boxes are very thin and they dont have too many problems so still think is poss on a Lammy
If its made of Metal Fettle it !!

If you look at this box so far the idea was to come up a four speed gear box that was reasonably priced which i think it is and to cure the problem of looking around trying to make up old loose gears in to a box or hunt around for one . Also to make it good for the road and readily available to the masses. Of course this is all subject to it testing well which at the moment it is. Also worth noting that making a gear box is probably the hardest engine component to make, remember none of us have a massive budget like Innocenti to work with .Obvoisly the five speed is the one to create but by building the four speed correctly and knowing it works is the best way to start, they didnt go to the moon on the first go they had a few dummy runs first .Developing a five speed that works will take time and there are many obsticales to over come probably why no-one has acheived it yet . Talk of a six speed is nice but would be mega complicated and im sure very expensive, while a one off may be posible i doubt it would be posible on a grand scale . Also as all lambretta engines work on a four speed system going to a six speed would mean changing the charicteristics of the power delivery and so it goes on.
While not trying to sound negative if anyone does produce this then great i for one would encourage it i just think it would be dificult and expensive to do .There is a lot of developement going on in all aspects of the Lambretta engine by many companys and shops and i think that is good but how far can you take it . To get a road lambretta to do 90 mph is possible now ive come off at that speed on the track and its not nice . How much further do you want to take it 100 mph or even more. At 90 mph the chasis is beyond the limits it was designded for on the road, soon we will be developing the chasis and thats where it changes from the machine we all love the Lambretta in to some sort of hybrid thats has nothing in comon. If you havent become bored or fallen asleep thats my thoughts over and i think this needs to go in a different thread. All this rubbish talk behind me i will post an update on the box later in the week.
