cutting/making your own reed petals

Thinking about getting a sheet of reed valve plate to make my own.At present I run my reeds doubled up 0.25 X 2 to beef them up a bit,anyway thinking it may be another option (and possibly a little cheaper) to make my own.Couple of questions:
1) Any tips on the cutting? tape,scissors,hobby knife?

2) Whats the difference (or which is better) carbon http://www.malossistore.co.uk/en/produc ... LVO&Type=M & Karbonit?? http://www.malossistore.co.uk/en/produc ... LVO&Type=M I'm assuming from the price difference carbon is the better/stronger option

I'm not even 100% sure I'll do it , may just buy another reed kit for reserve , just thought I'd ask peoples opinion of is it worth the hassle?

I cut my own for my GT186 using a sheet of Polini carbon fibre (comes in varying thicknesses) using a surgical scalpel.
Carbon sheet isn't the easiest stuff to cut but I eventually got there.
I was looking to create a more durable reed petal over the stock items and it worked... not sure it was any more economical or worth the effort really.

You can however tell everyone you are running hand-cut carbon petals

I cut my own for my GT186 using a sheet of Polini carbon fibre (comes in varying thicknesses) using a surgical scalpel.
Carbon sheet isn't the easiest stuff to cut but I eventually got there.
I was looking to create a more durable reed petal over the stock items and it worked... not sure it was any more economical or worth the effort really.

You can however tell everyone you are running hand-cut carbon petals

The Tasso LML site it gives you various thicknesses and describes the effect it has on response.

For some reason it won't let me copy the link or the text but basically it says

Thicker - higher top speed
Thinner - faster acceleration

I've got Polini red reed cut to fit in my indion coop engine. It cut ok with a Stanley knife, just takes a few slices. I don't know if the red ones are thick or thin. Goes ok though. And it doesn't seem to have worn much in a fair few thousand km.

Polini -

Red - thick 0.45mm
White - medium 0.40mm
Blue - thin 0.35mm

From memory I think it was 0.25 the same thickness as the original ones.
I bought them from PMTuning and they are available in 0.5mm thickness increments.

Thank you all chaps much appreciated - going to give it go.Thinking I will go for 0.4 and see how it goes - hopefully a happy compromise as at present running 2 X 0.25.

Let us know how you get on Dave. I had the same idea and bought some 100mm square pieces in 3 different thicknesses but so far I've not got any further. Get a lot of spitback through my LTH reed so thought I might make some thicker petals to see if it helps.
