Good luck, incl carb, exhaust, crank, clutch etc and the mans time I think u will be fortunate to achieve this price. people dont realise the time money & effort it takes to achieve a quality engine nowadays, no point having a top quality casing without the best quality parts inside.

I just couldn't bring myself to spend more than the cost of a complete Lambretta with something like a TS1 kit on just an engine. If my lottery numbers come up, put me down for the most exotic, high quality monster you can think of, but until then...
Meus Lambretta est non infractus. Is est quietus.

We are talking about a GT330 here not an Intercontinental case with a 200 top end (you can build a GT200 with an Intercontinental case for £1.4k) a . £3.5k is a steal for a 330cc race engine but either way, it is about litigation.

Unlike a kit this is a major part of the engine, even though they are stronger than original cases if someone broke one on the road it might ruin their day. Add to that the very significant issue that coupled with a 330 top end the kit easily has the power to exceed the rating of every 10" tyre I know about. In fact you pretty much exceed everything the scooter was ever designed for.

Ordinarily, if this happened on an Indian case and something went wrong you could spend a few days in hospital, and be pretty annoyed at someone in India who is outside the reach of any European laws. I live in the UK, it would be very easy for someone to claim that I was either entirely or partially responsible for there unfortunate incident and then a costly legal row ensues about how much I am or am not culpable for providing the plaintive with the means for their accident.

The bottom line is this, it is inherently unsafe to exceed the rating of components (particularly tyres). It is also illegal to ride without insurance and, in all probability if your insurance company knew you had such an engine (330cc) fitted they would want to re-evaluate your premium at a minimum.

For my protection, the case will be marked for race use. Any scooter I build for test will be properly insured and I hope that when the 330's arrive that anyone who uses one will do so safely and legally. If the owner intends to fit or use the parts in an unsafe or illegal manor then I won't be selling parts to them, It'll be printed on the box, like a lot of other part manufacturers do.

hi rich,
i agree with what you say about the tyres not being upto the performance available from a 300 plus sized engine, my 350lc gp has tyres rated at 90mph , but the performance of the scooter is way above that, as a result i know i am taking a risk when i ride faster, i just try to limit where i do it, and when.i think your doing a great thing building this case, i would have loved one for my 290 rotax conversion, but ive already spent lots of time and money on the case already, i am following this thread with intrest, have you any pics of your case inlet, does it use your gt reeds? i am fitting rb reeds in my case, just tying to get the positioning correct to leave enough frame clearance.
best regards
holty

Last year i spent 1500 on a basic rapido 200 engine. I know if i was to add an expansion and bigger carb the cost would rise even more.

When i saw the price of the casing it thought it was a great price for what you are getting. I still do.

Now i understand the wheres theres blame theres a claim policy you are trying to mitigate against it makes sense to say its for track use.

Am certain i will be seeing how these develop and perform.

:)

Yes
Is this something you plan on doing in the future?

Is it automatic that the 300 gives "insane or astronomical" power levels? Could the tuning be more torque biased as that seems to be what many people are realising makes a decent road going engine.
TS1 performance with reliability, durability, fuel consumption and bottom/mid torque acceptable for modern riding conditions.

Max speed say 80ish? Happy all day cruise 70?
Accelerate form say 20mph in top - briskly. 5 speed box un-necessary.
Some decent number for fuel consumption - presumably a modest time/area will make this easier to achieve and also give pistons and rings and easier time, so added durability.

All the things you listed are already available with existing parts if built properly and looked after.
