Hi it's the japanese piston with rough crown , same as yours i think with the new kit ( no 56) .
Bought the old kit of Dan with early vertex piston has had to have a single cut out milled out as had a blank inlet side.
So thats where you probably saw it on dan's post. I've been informed that AF have changed piston types 3 times so far :? Beggars the question why? Have e-mailed them with photo's and awaitng a responce, will keep this tread updated when i hear anything :)

Good old AF, really helpful when buying parts yet really hard to get hold of when the stuff is unusable...but I'm not bitter...."oh you will need to ring back between 5 and 6pm as I'm not technically able to help!!" well you could when I gave you the long number from my credit card!! :flaming: sorry this isn't really helping nor relevant, just hit a nerve!!

Hi Bazman took my crank out yesterday as the scoot had developed a bad vibration upwards from 3500rpm took it to readspeed today to have it checked, as i suspected it was twisted. it was, so had it trued and tig welded by Jerome (F.O.C. ;) ) i mentioned to him about yours and the ring pin coming out. He said, that can be the result of a twisted crank also. So it may be worth getting yours checked. Mine is an af "race" and had only done 1500 miles

you were lucky it lasted that long... one hears of so many of these cranks twisting after very low mileages, surely that needs addressing...

the crank being out of line throws the piston slightly side to side as it goes up and down the bore... So I think Jerome could be onto somthing.... If the ring peg was pinned from the top, with a twisted crank causing the piston to twist slightly in the bore, it may not have loosened the peg... As the peg has no free open end, for the piston ring to rock against...

i could be wrong of course.............but i think a lot of the current probs that folk are having stems from mostley indian casings......
so many folk seem to have crank probs nowadays, due to twisting etc,or bores wearing out on one side etc..........
and also probs with variable deck heights etc....

Ash, make you right the after sales service leaves a lot to be desired. had big fallout with them spat my dummy. Result was having to go through Taffspeed (top lads by the way)to get the remaining Rb parts.

Know when i brought the kit from them they were just changing, that was in feb i believe and was the first change they done, but i could be wrong.
