I've just bought a bit of a project, included in it was a pair of Sterling chrome plated tubeless wheel rims, theyre suffering some cosmetic rust so i was wondering about having them blasted and powder coated. I DO realise Sterling stuff is not top end gear but am working on a budget and its not too flexible so please dont start reccomending that i start fitting top end gear coz thats just not going to happen (at least not at the moment) so do we have any constructive advice on these rims? are they a functional bit of kit with no snob value, I do know for a fact the previous owner covered some tarmac on them with no problems.

Not much of a well on them so tyre fitting is extremely hard and the only way of getting tyres off without destroying the lip is to cut them off. Had a few done 7 or 8 years ago but never found anyone who could fit them by machine and hand fitting with levers always marks or bends the lip, so imagine it won't do your powder coat much good. Powder coat them in a colour that you can get get a can of touch up paint to match.
I've got about a dozen of them in bare metal that anyone can have for the cost of postage.

I must have had some luck as I've put tyres on and off Sterling rims without much of a problem, although I do realize Sterling is low end stuff and now seem to have renamed themselves FA Italia that seem to have links to VE Spares.
