My new scootrs remade inboard disc brake makes a clunking noise when its turned. Happens once every full turn.
The anti rattle spring is still in place, the disc moves free on the pins.
Anyone any ideas whats causing this?
Thanks
Hi mate,
Sounds pretty normal. The disc can rattle on the pins when the wheel rotates, or sometimes it's the sound of the floating brake pad in it's recess moving as it drags on the disc.
but.... the anti- rattle spring is designed to do just that- anti- rattle!
Just make sure its been assembled correctly and the axel is in the correct way round- I had to replace my pads recently and inadvertently rebuilt it with the axel in from the wrong side. It gave rise to the noise you describe. Replacing the axel the correct way round cured it.
I could have put the axle in the wrong way as I took it apart to get powder coated. Ill need to check that out, which way does it go in again? Shoulder side on the right or left??
Still havent got around to checking it out.
The brakes brand new, I took it apart to get it powder coated. Not sure if it was making a noise before as I didnt check.
I changed the bearings when I put it back together. The original bearings werent marked so I put some new skf ones in.
Ill let you know how I get on with it.
Mine clunks when I put it on full lock, but I have removed the anti-rattle spring. When you do seperate the two halves check that the pins that the disc slides on are tight, mine wasn't and my brothers was the same (ScootRS inboard disc) I had to remove them, saw a slot in the top of each pin so I could screw them in with a screw driver, fit loctite on the threads so they didn't come loose again and screw them in.
