Hello

This is my 2nd post here at Scootererotica. I've spent some time reading and searching the forum for some insight to an issue I am trying to solve but not sure I've found it so far here goes.

Having trouble with a BGM electronic ignition installed on a GL 150. Initially the ignition was working for a short time. The ignition was running for several minutes on the stand and about 5 miles testing on the road before the spark went away.

I checked the BGM CDI on a P200 which produced good spark.

I checked the BGM stator ohm readings the red and white wire measure 112 ohms and the white and green wire measure 500 ohms. The BGM readings were comparable to the readings I measured on a P200 stator.

I checked AC volts output with the BGM system installed and measured voltage on the white and red wire and the white and green wire but not producing a spark from the CDI.

I installed the P200 stator into the GL and was able to run the scooter with the BGM flywheel and BGM CDI. Tested AC output with P200 stator and again had similar readings that was observed with BGM stator only this seemed to work as good as I could expect.

Got another BGM stator and have the same symptoms, no spark. Everything seems to check out on the volt meter but no spark.

Any idea on what could be going on?

That would indicate that your problem is with your scooter, not the stator. Have you tried disconnecting the wire from the CDI that is paired with the green from the stator? This might be green as well but in any case, it will go into the loom and be connected to your ignition switch or cut-out. If that cures the problem then you will need to investigate the switch and or wiring. Removing that 2nd wire should be one of the first checks you do when you can't get a spark, very common fault. The ignition doesn't get 'turned off' as such like it does with a car for example. Turning the switch to the off position connects the stator green to earth thus shorting out the ignition and killing the engine. If the switch of wiring developes a short to earth that it will constantly shorting out your ignition. Try it, it'll only take a few seconds......be prepared to stall the engine by putting it in gear or turning the petrol off though 8-)

Thank you Coaster for the tips. When the scooter lost spark with the 1st BGM stator the lighting output from the stator was connected, black and blue wires. The green kill wire from the switch was also connected to the CDI and was working, it would kill the engine when pressed.

When trying to trouble shoot I disconnected the black and blue wires but I was unable to get a spark. The green kill wire continued to do it's job, when running scooter with P200 stator plate.

With the 2nd new BGM stator I did not connect the black and blue lighting wires so it seems even with those not in play I was unable to get a spark.

Still an unsolved mystery.

Have you ruled out the HT lead and plug/cap?

I am pretty sure the spark wire and clamp are OK. It's produced a spark still connected to BGM CDI on the P200 before I removed the P200 stator to put into the GL. It also produces spark with the P200 stator, BGM flywheel and BGM CDI installed on the GL. I've tested 2 BGM stator plates both new and no spark. Well the first one worked for a few minutes.
