s**t! A mistake on the nova form! Errrrrr. The scoot was novad a while back, cant see anywhere on the v55 that mentions it. So they come out to you Dags? Did a Sprint several years ago and it had to be inspected at Worcester, bloke just glanced at the numbers, doesnt say anything about photos, think ill just fill it out and see what happens

Yeh Go for it and don't worry about it. Assuming the bike is gen (and I'm sure it is) There is nothing to worry about. The only real downside is if they wish to inspect? it slows the procedure of obtaining a V5, by a week or two.
Enclose acopy of the NOVA with your application (or at least write the number down) It helps them to check.

The mistake on my Nova was someone mis-typed the frame number. Where there should have been a 9, they typed 0. Simple slip on a keyboard. All sorted out now.

My two experiences of 'inspection' have involved 2fellers (first time) and then the junior feller on his own (second time)
from SGS. Who photographed the scooters from three or four angles. Then checked the frame and engine numbers against the info I had supplied. They also photograph the numbers.
It 'seems' to be a random selection process, however. The first time (in my case) was because there was a mistake on the NOVA declaration. They 'needed' to see the bike to ensure the facts.
I suspect the next project was inspected because my name was highlighted at Swansea and they wanted to make sure I wasn't on the fiddle.

I don't see how this system can continue. What does it cost DVLA to send SGS out? One of the guys said he was doing eight that day! (not all scooters)
I don't see why the MOT tester of an imported vehicle cannot validate the relevant numbers and save DVLA all the bother and cost.
I agree with all of this and yes it is still random to a point. All pre 60's get inspected as they are not MOT'd, any which have "mistakes" on the application will be inspected and yes anyone who's name flags up will be inspected. The inspection can be done at your home by request and it is quite painless. The inspectors are knowledgeable and friendly and unless you are trying to pull a fast one, they know all the tricks, you won't have a problem.

I agree that this is a costly exercise to the DVLA and that there is no need to inspect post 1960 scooters as the MOT tester and the Dating Letter issuer have already validated the bike. Whether it will continue is another question!

Submitted a V55 a couple of weeks ago for a S2 1961 and got the V5C yesterday without any inspection needed. When submitting the V55 I did include more than needed to try and cover off any issues, such as Dating Cert & MOT (required), Insurance cover note (I rode the scooter to the MOT station so needed it for that) and a print out of the NOVA.

I did read somewhere that NOVA's expire so I checked the HMRC site to see what the status was of mine (submitted in March I think) and there was no record of it. Not sure if this is an issue or not, maybe there's some kind of record that you've submitted one, or perhaps you should print submission details to a PDF. To be safe I did another one & printed it out and stuck it in with the form. I suppose you could also include a frame rubbing and phot of the numbers, but really as said above the MOT & dating cert should cover that.

When I registered my series 2 in January I filled out the V55 form and enclosed the £55 registration fee,an MOT certificate,an insurance cover note,a NOVA certificate,a dating certificate and photos of the engine and frame numbers,I also included photos of the back, front and both sides of the scooter. After being rejected twice because of the DVLA's computer system not recognising the letter i in the VIN number I got the name of a superviser at the DVLA and addressed everything to him, this worked and I received my registration number and didn't have to have the scooter inspected.

I've had my 1st attempt rejected because I sent a copy of the dating certificate and not the original. I sent it all back with the original dating cert a week ago. Hopefully this time it'll be accepted.

Interesting what HXPaul said there, Re. the letter i. My last 2 V5's have come back with the prefix 150 L1
DVLA still can't print a small i
I've not even bothered to comment on it to them. I just ride L1's instead of Li's
