CLUTCH HELP NEEDED

Anything related to Lambrettas... ask tech questions, post helpful info, or just read and learn.

I have been researching all the different kind of clutch setups that are out there today but I still can't find the answers to the main question that is on my mind. My main concern is that I have a slightly weak left hand so while sitting traffic and having to use the clutch quite often my hand starts to ache. So I thought of looking into the different kinds of clutch setups that are available. While researching the cassette type clutches a few people are saying that they are similar to pulling in a standard clutch but stop all the slipping etc. Now I'm looking for a clutch set up that is a lot easier on the hand like the ones that are advertised as "easy to pull with one finger" clutches. Is there such a thing or are they still quite stiff to pull in.

Any help, advice or tips in getting an easy to pull couch would be really appreciated

If got an AF Race in one of my bikes and with an MB cable and Yamaha lever can pull it in with one finger. I've just fitted an LTH in another bike with the same cable and lever and it's quite stiff. I'm hoping it'll bed in after a bit. I've often toyed with fitting an 'easy' clutch like those fitted to trials bikes. Another thing to consider is your engine spec and do you really need an exotic clutch? A well set up 4 plate with MB springs should be ok for loads of motors out there.

My engine set up is an slightly tuned imola 186. Paul at replay said it should put out about 25 BHP. So yes if I could get away with standard set up it would save me money. At the moment I've got a 5plate kit to go in it with springs from Darrell Taylor. I know that there are a lot of contributing factors that make up a good clutch. All I have at the moment is a standard crown wheel standard spider etc, just have the 5plate kit to go in it. My main aim is to have a clutch that is easy to pull in. Ive read posts about the deeper crown wheel and spider set ups, the af race and road and the lth 7plate but some are saying that they aren't really "easy pull". I really can't spend £400 + as my budget doesn't allow that kind of spend. Was reading about the broadhurst stuff, crown, spider etc but by the time you have spent that outlay you could have got a af road cassette.

Readspeed 5 plate kit in your existing clutch components with MB springs should be good with that motor. I've got one in a 22bhp Imola and it's great. It's almost as light as a standard clutch and the kit is around £40 so no bank buster. I only ditched the springs that came with it because I know MB ones work very well. I've been down the road of extended spiders and deep sprockets and couldn't get it all to work properly. As said the Readspeed kit is spot on.

Have to agree with 10inch terror regarding MB springs, I have them fitted in my Stage 4 200 and its the best clutch lever operation I've used.

Yep did see the MB springs and also I've read a good nylon lined clutch cable routed correctly is a help as well. Even thinking of the Yamaha lever conversion if it helps !

If it's really an issue there is a hydraulic clutch conversion available which would tick all the boxes. Not cheap though. certainly more than £40 :D

Its not that much of a problem. Its finding the comfortable solution at a reasonable price. Pulling in a well set up standard clutch isn't a problem. But as soon as you start using stiffer springs and more plates etc it begins to become an issue with heavy use.

You'd have a lot of change left with the AF road. M.B kit is LTH money @ £380 and B.G.M is £334. AF road is £225.

Got to agree with corrado . I have the AF road but have the race plates fitted and had it on dyno on friday and even after a good few runs on there there was no slip at 29.50bhp
