Is it ok for there to be a bit of play on the crownwheel.?
Just stripped mine and found theres some play, is this normal

A little bit is ok. If it's excessive you can buy shims that go under the spider to take up the extra play. MB sell the shims for this job. Sticky's book has all the information regarding clearances etc.

Seems ok now its all back together and torqued up.
Just struck me as odd when I was putting it together again

They must be bloody thin I dont think anything that lifts the spider up (towards the kickstart shaft , and potentially lifting the top clutch plate out of the crown wheel ) is a good idea
I always hand grind mine to 0.10mm yes 1/10th of a mm :D

Yes they are very thin. We are talking 0.5mm etc. I've used them and they work perfectly well.
