Last time we did Milan (via french Rivera),there wasn't an expansion in a group at all and the only tuned motor was a 205.
I was on a TV175 with 4 pole points and Adam was on GP150 motor with points.I like the reliability of an iron barrel so would choose that with a decent clubman as they tend to stay together longer than most expansions I've had.I would like to do this rally again but don't use points on anything anymore.

Still 150 and it was really good. On the original 5.7 4th ratio it tackled the hills like a dream, even 2-up (girlfriend, now wife), to the point that others commented on how well it went. Subsequently, I had this bored to 175 and it was never quite so good again!

Ported to the 60s Tuning Manual spec, later SX/GP spec standard exhaust, 22mm Dellorto.
When it went to 175 it didn't seem to go any better than when it was 150 so I then went down the route of additional tuning, Fresco, etc. The final step, as I still wasn't happy with it, was taking the exhaust port slightly too wide and running into ring breakage issues. This went from being a 150 that people spoke about to a 175 that was underwhelming

I've been thinking about going the 175 route with a engine I'm building at the moment but my road SX150 goes really well and I've got a spare italian GP/SX150 topend and been thinking apart from some extra torque is it really worth all the hassle with the 175 when the 150 seems to tick all the boxes I want. Honda 205 with clubman on it was fast enough and good on fuel even with a big 34 amal .The barrel is now on its last honda piston but it's done alot of rallys all over the years on other bikes as well as mine till it got put on the shelf for a ts1.Going to build it back up again when I get time.
