Well, sort of sorted.

I used your wet and dry trick to clean the points, gapped them again and moved the stator back between where it was when I started and where it backfired.

What I noticed while I was doing the wet and dry trick was that the points were physicly opening @19 BTDC but my strobe was showing that it fires earlier than it actualy opens.

So I am still confused as to why. The strobe also shows my mark to jump between 19 and 25 which is better than the 10 degrees it jumped yesterday.

Sooo... Something is fishy. Ive been out for a 50km jaunt this afternoon in glorious Autumn weather and it didn`t miss (although very slow in the hills) beat.

I need to either re-furbish my stator (new points and condensor) I think. Try and do a J125 6 pole conversion (hard to find) or bite the expensive bullet and fit the casa 12v system.

On a happy note, it appears that Rimini lambretta and Casa are working on a new "clubman" type pipe for the luna/lui 75cc conversion kit which will be ready before next season.

The parts to refurbish the Stator are available but I have been reading up on how poor the 4 pole lui stator was from new and my lights are non existent, so that may tip the scales against going through the trouble of fixing it.

Lighting coil... http://www.riminilambrettacentre.com/en ... ui-50.html Cheap as chips :p

Same points that I have http://www.riminilambrettacentre.com/en ... dansi.html

They also have ducati points but I`m unsure if they can be used on a four pole stator. http://www.riminilambrettacentre.com/en ... dansi.html

I've never worked on a Lui so I don't know what is interchangeable with other Luna or J models. If the crank taper is the same, can you not swap out for a 6-pole system from another model (I note that you've mentioned the J125)? You may find that you can source a J flywheel and stator for about the same price that the NOS coil would cost you, providing you with a lighting performance upgrade at the same time...?

Unfortunately, as I said before, I've never worked on a Lui so I'm at a loss to offer you any real advice.

I do like the fact that you went for a nice 50km ride though :)

I`m not sure what is needed to be done on the conversion either but saw it mentioned here....http://www.riminilambrettacentre.com/en ... tail/id/25
Here at RLC we have done dozens of Lui’s and know the scores to give them a little extra pazzazzzzzz. The ‘recipe’ is pretty much the same each time and consists of ; Casa 75cc barrel kit (X3), RLC close ratio gear cluster (RLC056), 3 plate clutch set-up (M131), 15T front sprocket (X29), Iwis 76 link chain (M141bz), 6 pole J125 electrics
Maybe one of the luna guys can chime in as to wether the crankshaft taper is the same?

Where do you think I could find a J125 flywheel and stator Adam? It might be worth a try if thats whats the norm is.

Have a look here. http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... l-magneto/ Not sure if the crank taper is the same but without pulling my motor apart I would think so. This system would give you a brake light and a dip and high if you modified the headlight holder to take a twin filament bulb and changed the switch.

Hmm.. found this that sold on ebay for £31 and he does seem to think that it will fit a J50 which is basicly the same engine and crankshaft as my Luna.

Nice one, thanx Wack!

Well, I dont need to modify my headlight holder or change the switch because the (only) ace in the pack when it comes to the Sweedish luna is that they came with brake light, switch with dip and the Vega handlebar/headset and front light.

I see now that it`s 12V too... Is it as simple as fitting and swapping out bulbs to 12v, timing check and bobs yer uncle?

Yep, that Ebay flywheel and stator is exactly what I was thinking when I said that you might pick up a J flywheel + stator for less than the NOS Lui coil. I do agree though that buying from Ebay is a risk, one that many of us have regretted, but there is also some good stuff on there too.

If someone can confirm that the J flywheel and stator is a direct swap for the Lui, without having to change the crank, then this is certainly worth looking into. I'll go and have a look at the Rimini upgrade info too.

If you can confirm that J stuff fits, it may be worth you putting a post in the Wanted section of this forum.
