I have tried fitting my side panels back on with new rubber channeling, but they wont fit,no where near.If I push them on,it still wont go anywhere near the spring retainer, and then they are stuck tight, have to really battle to pull them off. They are the original side panels, and the same frame. Its an Li 125,1963.
Is there a magic fix?

Dave- just make sure the new rubbers are on the correct way round.
To be honest, I tend to slip the panel on at the front, then push down until the handle is in the approximate correct position- I then turn the handle with one hand and use my other hand to "walk" the inner mechanism over the spring mechanism- it can be a real effort at times.
Its much better to be tight than risk having the panel spring loose and fall off.

Try lubing the rubbers with Mr Sheen or similar silicon spray as it helps to fit and remove the panel. The best ones are the plastic type, the rubber ones grip too much and won't allow the panel to slide into position.

There are cheap rubbers that really make fitting a pain. Whatever rubber you have though you still have to encourage the top front edge on whilst manoeuvring the handle into place.
