Had it stripped this morning,
Shimming seams fine (no pepsi steve)
2.8mm shim to endplate, stripped and rebuilt that part and just re fitting the endplate correctly (as sticky book) has taken a hell of a lot of the rock out, there is still a slight rock but only slight would this be the norm..(no feeler gauges) shim runs fine and not to tight,
Still a rock on the crown wheel 1.0mm shim to that could it be shimed more and not cause damage? Its got 1mm of rock is this acceptable?
Bell will need a fettle to let plates run true..but not a problem better than watching scooters race at cadwell today...NOT..

the shimming of the crown/spider wheel will do nothing to stop its rocking it just movers it up or down in relation to the front sprocket(it does of course lift the spider from the endplate as well) id say 1mm play is to much mine has far less than that and its a ts1 with a few thousand on it, gearbox shim wise i always use a feeler gauge on mine and go for the middle setting clearance wise i did have about 20 shims some of which i had lapped down to get the correct clearance sometimes spending hrs with wet and dry on a piece of glass i then check them with the vernier before i fit and then feeler gauge

take some off the end of the spider ? but take a tiny bit off at a time, and refit to check play as you go

I'd change the bush if I were you, reducing the end float by palying with the shims might reduce the rocking but it would be very temporary I'd think.

Two fixes mentioned should cure the rock in all directions... The pulling in and out will be cured by removal of small amounts of metal from the spider done in stages... but there has to be a small amount of in and out mvement or the clutch inner & outer will lock up when tightened.... A new tighter fitting bush will stop the side to side play... Both fixes mentioned in previous posts... This is how I would attempt to fix it, before (if necessary) replacing any parts with new... Make sure you check the rivets on the spider are still tight as well... All the best

Just got off the phone with Bruce and Mark and all new parts on there way and tools to do the job so well done them lads..the gearbox has only very slight movement now and speaking to mark (there mechanic) its norm to have a little..will check the new bits when they arrive and fettle where needed.

Cheers Lads..scooterotica to the rescue again.. ;) Its better than international rescue on here..Da.Da.Da.... :frog:
