LML Star Lock Removal

jus stripped the assembly i have and it is as i thought :-

1. take out the grub screw and remove the plastic switch part
2. with some snipe nose pliers pull the lock bar out
3. the lock barrel has a sprung pin which acts as a retaining clip - you need to push in to free the barrel - the barrel will then push into the lock body (the black bit with on/off/ignition) but wont come out completely. You will need to tap the lock body out as it is held with spring plate - the lock barrel will stay in place. Be carefully not to loose the spring plate.

Stripping the assembly makes it obvious how the barrel and lcok body goes back together in the the tube in the frame.

Pretty sure the 'lock bar' steering lock will not pull out with forks in place.

That will be a fork drop to pull/replace that part.

The bit you have quoted is to disassemble a complete iginition/switch/lock unit (which includes the outer tube) - this was an update on what i wrote last night as part of some ongoing dialogue.

He is looking to replace only the lock barrel but has purchased the complete unit which includes the a replacemnt tube (the part welded in the frame) - the barrel has been drilled out so if no damage he will reuse the lock bar thats in the frame currently (no need to remove it) - if not the case then agree that the forks need to come outto replace the lock bar.

Unfortunately, the lock bar is damaged so it's a fork out job... I now have the new lock apart and can see exactly how it all goes together....now, what did you say about that retaining spring?

This job has turned into a right pIn, and it isn't even my bike, so a learning curve.. Personally I'm a Lambretta man... I'm good at those
