Or a dab with finger full of a contrasting colour, then a quick wipe should leave enough paint in the stamping.
If you forget to do that, rubbing a wax crayon or even chalk works.

i have two Lambrettas powder coated, one white one orange, even Mr. Magoo could see the numbers if they tried looking, wouldnt be pleased if some jobs worth scrapped the coating off !!

If there a real jobsworth they may just say they cant read it and fcuk off without authenting it , I guess the onus is on theowner to present it in a readable condition I had an mot refused 2 years ago because they couldnt see ifit was a 6 or an 8 :roll:

^ Very valid advice IMHO. Mask the number before coating: does not lool pretty but......

I have to have sgs inspect my lambretta so there just checking the vin frame and engine numbers or are they checking more
