Hello

Butcher's = butcher's hook = look. Squint = look. Nowt = nothing. Booger = bugger, only slightly more polite.
Interestingly you mention spider's legs. These are pubes, usually unruly and unwanted ones that poke out from a ladies' bikini bottom. Also known as clock springs.
The GT springs are Gran Turismo ones from Rich Taylor I believe. Mine came from AF Rayspeed. These springs are a fair bit shorter than standard ones.

Upon returning from the Far East (Norfolk) I took the clutch apart today and found nothing untoward. When the clutch was compressed with the tool I could move the plates up and down about 1.5mm.
The cable is fine and located in both ends stops and the pressure plate does not snag on the spider.

I did notice a couple of things but can't imagine either would induce clutch slip.
1) The pressure plate centre, where it is hardened is slightly loose and can be pushed up and down about 0.4mm.

2) The bronze bush (BGM) looks like it has been starved of lube, as has the inside of the sproket. Bit annoyed I didn't file extra slots in it when I fitted the new bush as I feel it should have slots from top to bottom to allow lubricating oil a way in.

Not sure what to do. Seems strange it was great for 1000 miles and then started to play up, and with no visible defect.
Maybe I try a new set of springs?

cheers

Hello

Rebuilt the clutch last week with some used springs from t shed. Also replaced one cork plate that looked a wee bit fried (sticking?) with an oldie but goodie from the shed. Bent the ears up on the bottom plate too. All seems hunky dory now and survived a ride to and from work. Hopefully it'll survive one or commutes and hold out for Mersea......

cheers
