yes they are a poor design, i think thats why the ypvs had a better system, not sure realy, i might pop to our local bike breakers and have a look at a few, i think ive got enough room for one, i might have to make a packer plate or machine the slave so its the correct distance from the push rod, looks like your idea of a bike engined section is gathering support.

i had ordered some new jets as the ones in were far too rich, stripped the carbs off only to find them full of crap, looks like i didnt clean out my tank properly, so i drained the tank, when i took the banjo bolt out the pipe snapped of the union, must have been cheap indian rubbish, that cheap pot metal they make toy cars out of, so i will go shopping tomorrow and see if i can buy a steel union to replace it with. i have also had an idea how to make my clutch lighter, i am going to extend the length of the internal cluch arm so it has more leverage hoping that will make the handlebar clutch lever easier to pull in, so i havnt been able to use my guages to balance the carbs yet.

yes your right, but there will be enough travel to allow me to extend it, just as long as i dont extend it to long, could be a bit of trial and error, worth a try, if it doesnt work i will go hydraulic, all part of building a one off project i guess.

The SIP adjustable levers give more travel than standard and a lighter pull as wellholty wrote:yes your right, but there will be enough travel to allow me to extend it, just as long as i dont extend it to long, could be a bit of trial and error, worth a try, if it doesnt work i will go hydraulic, all part of building a one off project i guess.

new jets arrived so while the carbs are off got the new jets in and carbs back together, purchased a new fuel union for the tank and got it all back together,it started 3rd kick and runs much sweeter, it turned out that the carb cables were not adjusted correctly so i was very carefull to make sure they opened evenly this time. i took it for a little spin down the street and its a lot better , no bogging down, and a lot more power, cant thrash it too much tho, i need to run it in. next jobs are the clutch and gearbox to make a softer cluctch lever and an easier to twist gearchange,

its a little modification brought to my attention by stampede (cheers) its a way to make the gearchange lighter, i was finding it very hard to change gear, obviously in the yamaha my engine came out of you would change gear with your foot, but my handchange cant generate as much pressure so hoping this mod helps. also found that the gear selecter was not adjusted correctly as its worn, so a couple of bits of weld and filed back to shape and its adjusable again now, so i can get it spot on, when it all back together i will have a look at the clutch operating mechanism on the other side.
