fitting a speedo to a lambretta model c
You could speak to Danny at Scootopia (but I think hes on holiday), he would know.johncas wrote:What speedo can I fit to a lambretta model c my insurance company says I need to fit one
But it would cheaper and easier to source a new insurance company.
How can they dicatate you have to fit a non standard item, which they will then charge you more to insure as it is 'modified'??
Have you asked if they cover modified scooters??
Shaun.

Well a speedometer was an optional extra on the model c you could have one but mine dose not and with plenty of speed cameras around I want to know how fast I'm going and my insurance company want mileage they ask you that everytime you renew or do I just tell them the scooter dose not have a speedo
Personally I would tell it has never had one and if they didn't accept that I would change insurers or get a non limited mileage policy. As for speeding, unless you live in an area with loads of 20mph zones, I am sure a C will be safe to potter on through.johncas wrote:Well a speedometer was an optional extra on the model c you could have one but mine dose not and with plenty of speed cameras around I want to know how fast I'm going and my insurance company want mileage they ask you that everytime you renew or do I just tell them the scooter dose not have a speedo
Not that I know anything about them but I'd guess a C is what, mid 50's? I'd hazard a stab in the dark it'll do low to mid 40 mph flat out on a good day and a calander would be an adequate form of monitoring progress rather than a speedo. Even taking something like say a Ford V8 Pilot which was a fast car around that sort of time you'd struggle to achieve a motorway speed, might get there but you wouldn't be comfortable with it and you'd not stay there for long.
I'm with Shaun, tell the Insurance company to behave or take your custom elsewhere.

From limited knowledge there were two main types of speedometers fitted as optional extras. One was the circular Veglia type which are often seen on LD's and D's. Cost when found between 50 and 100 quid dependent on condition. Also there is the half moon shape one's that I saw fitted once to a C. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RESTORED-D-sh ... 1842615634
Cost a bit more than the first. I am also under the impression that there is no speedo drive fitted on the C as that too was an optional extra. Probably same or similar to later models. There are other speedometers made by other companies see link below
