Just wondering.... Has anyone run a tuned motor on an Li crank and are they up to the job? In previous posts I've asked a few questions about my set up..... Harry Barlow Suzuki 190... Which was running a 22mm Jetex and big bore pipe, I've now changed to a 30mm Dellorto and TSR EVO.....

Anway, due to a fault with the Indian 12v I'm putting a Varitronic on it and have found out that the crank I have is an Li type not GP. It's been rebuilt to suit the tune with a 116mm conrod and that's all fine...

The only concern I have is that people have mentioned it should have been done with a GP crank as they are stronger. I'm sure Harry knows what he's doing but I have the seed of doubt about it since adding the bigger carb and pipe.

I'm not planning on stripping a perfectly good motor that has had a load of money spent on it unnecessarily but am concerned as to what might happen? I bought the engine built and it has been great for 5 years, just needed pepping up a bit.

If I were starting from scratch then It may be different, but surely Harry wouldn't have built a tuned engine using an inferior or weak crank set up, especially as the crank would have been rebuilt as well with the new conrod.....?

Anyone got any input on this?

Bit confused, cheers... :?

I ran a Webster 190 in the 80's on an LI crank with a Ducati brass flywheel with nylon fan with no issues and hopefully by using the Varitronics lighter flywheel you should be ok.

That's great, thanks for the reply.... As with anything on old scooters it will be suck it and see but it's been fine up to now and as you say, the new flywheel is lighter even though it's revving a bit more now....

Much appreciated, cheers... !
