First scoot (Lambretta) which model is best for a newb?

I don't think the DVLA give a flying f@@k.
My original logbook for the big bike states it's a 998cc. Guzzi never made a 998, the largest Guzzi sold here in 1979 when my bike was made was 948cc.
On some occasion when there was talk of issuing fuel rationing chits, I gave them a ring - the good old days eh! - and they said it didn't matter and they didn't care... they certainly were not going to issue a new logbook.
You could almost hear the guy's eyes rolling down the phone.

Insurance - different story. We all know, any excuse to refuse a pay out. Plus we really owe it to others to be properly insured. Both 3rd parties and our families who may have to pick up the pieces.

Of course if Customs and Excise find out, they can be really nasty. Powers of search and seizure far beyond what the police can do.

How often does this happen? I've never met or heard of anyone being caught - anyone?

have you got anything worthwhile to say about insurance,do you know if its a legal requirement to change the cc on logbooks?

It wasn't like that the insurance company claimed money from him personally attaching a deduction of earnings order through the court

I second that. My gp is 1979 Indian but never ridden in India made with same presses and parts as innocenti, providing frame number and all else tallies. Nowadays many sell scoots that have over 5k spent with imola, Monza and other good top end tunes done. I wish I had bought one that someone else had done the good work on, as opposed to spending lots on eg new crank, disk brakes, race pipe, gearing etc. I could sell mine for only half of what I have spent, that said I would not sell. Frame and engine numbers need checking, sticky s book and L.c.g.b helped me a lot a long with this forum and its brilliant helpful members.

Thanks for all the help. I'll def not buy the first one I see (cough!) and I'll do a bit more reading. Im gonna try & keep it as original as I can but avoid a "project"

To be fair the little rants have put me off a "Reg as a 125" thing from a legal aspect as if I've only done CBT then I could be in the poo if I have a bump or get a ticket
