Thanks Chris,dont fancy drilling a hole in the crankcase.I am going to be fitting an Ancilloti,what do you think?

I think if its fitted without any strain anywhere it should be OK- I always tend to open out the bracket holes a tad so the box slips straight on (in theory depending on who built it!!)

The only problems I've had over the years is the tail pipe fixing at the bottom- If they work loose I re-tap to the next size up (then takes an 11mm nut)- seems to work OK

Personally I would not do the DIY mod in view of the inherent dangers of going too deep or at an angle- you also have to move and reweld the box bracket underneath.

There was another mod to increase rigidity (apart from feeding said box with a Viagra diet!), and that was to have an "L" shaped bracket running down from the cylinder cowl bolt to the "U" bend clamp- again make sure it doesn't strain the set up but just provides additional support.

Chris there is more flexibility with the MB Clubman fitting is very adjustable.
