Casa Lambretta UK/Scootopia did advise 128/130 main so will look and see tomorrow. But as they said 'no engines built as yet by any dealers, so a lot of it is guesstimate. Apparantly they have contacted Vittorio Tessera for more tech info.......................

Checked plug today. After 30 miles only a little greyish deposit on the side electrode. On dismantling found no carbon or any other deposits inside head or piston crown (absolutely clean)!
On checking timing by dial guage found that the firing point seemed to have moved, firing point had moved anticlockwise about a cm, then realised that guage was sticking and so not reliable. Will buy new one tomorrow and check again. ....Should also say that 19DBTDC was done with the Indian barrell installed and I did not recheck thinking that the barrel dimesions would be the same.......DOH.

Thank for input so far.

TDC will NEVER move as long as you keep the same crank fitted regardless of top end.
Best Regards

In that case wasn't set up right to start with, Indian top end must be more forgiving. Today have reset timing using NEW dial guage TDC is the same but firing point (19DBTDC) has changed About 1cm more to the left, almost at 12 O'clock.
Aligned marks on pick up with marks on flywheel. Will check with strobe tomorrow.
Going to leave jetting as is for now.....will road test and proceed from there with jetting.

Yes use the strobe ASAP as never trust the marks on the flywheel to be fully accurate. Once you use the stove you might find that it was correct all along on the original marks.
One thing to consider is that the Ali top end will have a different acoustic to the all iron Indian barrel once on the road.
Best Regards

Agreed, when stobed with Indian barrel found that firing point was quite a bit out and had to move stator. Have double/ triple checked settings today and reassembled to test tomorrow. Acoustics difference? hadn't considered that!

Instalment #******.

Timing strobed(had to move stator a little to the right). Changed main jet to 130. Started 2nd kick, choke off within 15 seconds. Nice steady tickover. Took down road (2 miles) and back (up hill) opened throttle no obvious sign of pinking.(Phew!!) still got annoying rattle from transmission so changed Indian very stretched chain to Iwis one, still got rattle but will let motor settle for a few days and then evaluate options. i.e. Ask more questions on here.

Re : Pinking.

Having tried all the variants of timing that I can think of (19DBTDC down to 16 DBTDC) in one degree..ish increments with no success I am now concentrating on mixture at idle up to 1/4 throttle. I have determined that a 5899-1 atomizer gives a richer mix than -2.-3,-4 and -5 versions as the holes in the top(just under the top threads) of the atomizer become progressively larger thus allowing more air in to the fuel making mix leaner, so have fitted a Jetex atomizer ( smallest visible holes) with 50 pilot jet. I have 52 and 55 jets on order but could do with a 5899-1 atomizer, anyone?? (Also posted in wants Section!!

Pinking is a little fainter now so I could be moving in the right direction :?: :?:
