This one is odd, most likely something simple, but I can't see it for the 'Pistoff'nfuctoff' I am suffering from at the moment.
Story is, PX125, 166 Malossi.
Piston stop method and two stops marked off.
Flywheel off, cutdown timing disc to clear stator used, TDC mark found and stop marks are 41 degrees either side.
I took TDC and marked 16btdc.
Stator on full advance just past IT.
Flywheel on fired up and strobing at about 36btdc
Elongated holes and restrobed, nigh on no difference.
Changed CDI for an old Ducati, still same.
Elongated holes a bit more, better.
Changed flywheel for a known good one, checked woodruff slot and crossed magnets against the other flywheel and all still the same.
Elongated holes a bit more and a bit better.
Changed stator for a working one I have previously strobed at 16 on another engine, and that also fully advanced is strobing at about 36btdc
Checked TDc with a screwdriver and a tad amiis (not alot),
Checked TDC with a borescope watching for the rock and it matched my piston stop TDC.
Don't have a dial guage, but I am not going to be wrong on 3 other methods.
So, 2 flywheels (Piaggio), 2 stators (Indian), 2 CDI's, (1 unknown make, 1 Ducati).
Oh, and 2 timing lights, my Draper one, and my mates Snap on one, still the same.
Now, If I keep elongating (I am almost double the normal slot and nowhere near) I will be able to get it to strobe right, but that can't be right, can it
Any ideas????
I do have an umolested PX rotting in the back garden (future project), I may borrow that stator as it will be Italian.
Whats reckon chaps??
