At the very least I'd soda blast that cylinder and head to get the corrosion off. It will cool better and make any new problems easier to spot.

Yes I have been thinking it could do with a clean myself.

By soda blast you mean bicarbonate of soda in a bucket of water? I'm going to clean the exhaust out too in case that is causing the problem.

£59. Less than the cost of a new piston.

Thanks. That's tempting. I'm trying to talk my friend into going halves as he would use as much as me. :)

Soda (bicarbs as you say) is the media used in a blasting machine. The soda is not as harsh as some of the other used (sand, grit, etc).

You can make your own leak down kit using a bicycle inner tube, foot pump any some soapy water. Even if you buy the pump and inner tube it'll only cost £10 or less.

Yeah I kind of get that, clamp the inner over the carb mouth, and then you block you exhaust with something?

On the kit on facebook, loctite is provided. Whats that used for?

Just cut the inner tube in half and connect one end to the inlet manifold and the other to the exhaust stub (or tail pipe). Just done one on my Avanti and used it again on my Rapido......worked at treat, sprayed with soapy water and I had bubbles coming from everywhere

Identified leaks/fixed and re-tested......tighter than a ducks ar*se :D
