While the 250 is on the bench, (actually its under the bench due to working on customers engines) I have put the 230 back into the GP, the 230 hadn't been out since Brid last year and had been under the bench waiting for a strip and rebuild. It didn't get one, infact it didn't even get an oil change but today it day tripped from Birmingham to Southend for the Essex lambretta club rally.

Had a small problem on the way there shown in this video, not with the engine though ;)

The 230's big end failed yesterday.

I'm now thinking that not having reed windows in the piston to test the boyesen ports in this engine has contributed to this failure.
Crank went in about 2 years ago and the piston with no reed window went in just over year ago. duno how many miles its done like that but going by the gamma unit that went on at the end of July it must have done around 9000 miles since the piston went in.

If I had stripped the motor as intended over winter im sure there would have been signs of the big end going, since it came back from under the bench its only done the Essex rally and the miles on Saturday before it failed.

Im just glad I decided to put reed windows in the 250 conversion :) and that Richards new cranks arrive soon so I now have an engine to put one in to!

Stripped it last night.

Ye I know my garage is a mess and I've got too many hammers on the bench.

Bare in mind this engine was thrown together to test the prototype gt barrels. Its done many miles since it's last rebuild which was a few weeks before going to Milan on it last year.
