What is the length of spring when installed in a clutch and why did you feel the need to compress both to the point of being coil bound? Surely the amount of weight required to compress the spring to its operating length would be more useful in determining the strength of each spring?
I know nothing about the values of Lambretta clutch springs but I am wondering what you experiment proves?
What is the benefit of 5 over 4 plates given that simplistically friction is independent of area.

When you get your Reedspeed clutch, it's important as with any clutch to make sure you have the right clearance between the top steel and the first friction plate. Make sure the gap is between 1.5 and 2mm and you will avoid slip and drag, it's a very fine balance with 5 plates. You might find you need to use one or two extra thin steels (1mm) and also the top plates come in different thicknesses. The clutch on the TS1 ended up with me needing a 3.5mm top plate which I didn't have so I popped a 1mm thin steel in with a 2.5 top plate to get the required thickness. Be prepared for lots of building and re-building, no such thing as a plug and play clutch on a tuned Lambretta

Interesting as Im about to sort out a clutch for my gt186 im building, but have already got my usual fare on the bench, ie vespa springs over lambretta on a surflex b set of plates. Never had a problem with this set up yet to be fair.

Ive just done it too, standard lammy ones with vespa on a muggy 186, no slipping here either, however id expect the gt engine will have more power so ill consider a set of mb or reedspeed ones perhaps.
